April update

E-mail Print PDF

Dear All,

Thanks again for visiting my site which I have committed to updating more frequently to give you a better view of council, and a better view of the Wingrove ward.

Recently we have been continuing to assist in the massive task of community support and redevelopment in the wake of the bushfire crisis, and are continuing to work with our communities to rebuild and recover.

Locally in Eltham the Eltham Lower Park drain works have been progressing well, with the replanting and bank stabilising works being undertaken, and with the support of the local Friends groups, a fantastic resource will be available for all again very soon.

The building works in Eltham shopping centre are continuing at a rapid pace also, and despite the short term inconveniences, the long term benefits will be huge for all.

I’d also like to announce that as of the first Saturday in May (May 2nd), I will be starting a bi-monthly meet and greet in the Eltham Town Square from 10:00am to midday where members of the community will be able to come and speak with me about emerging community issues and any questions about council and the operations thereof.  I look forward to speaking with a lot of you there.

Over the next couple of weeks, council is working on the current new council plan, and will be working on budget issues.  Any community feedback on these issues is more than welcome so I can add your feedback into the mix, and continue to ensure that the community is recognising and incorporating the issues and values of the community we represent.  In Wingrove ward, in Eltham South, we are also working with community fireguard groups in the area, and working with the CFA to manage and develop these groups.

That’s about it for now – stay safe and happy.

Helen.

Nillumbik grieves

E-mail Print PDF

Dear All,

I wish to join with all people in expressing my deepest sadness at the devastation and loss of life from the bushfires that ravaged the state on February 7th.  In respect of the local community in Nillumbik who have been affected, I cannot even begin to come to terms with the sense of loss that these communities are feeling, and yet I share in that complete sense of loss.

Over the coming days and weeks, I will be working with my colleagues in Council to provide every possible avenue of support to the victims of these tragic fires, but also to provide support to those who have fought the fires, and those who have provided other assistance, even in the smallest of ways.

To those who have lost love ones I wish to express my most sincere condolences, and to those who have lost houses and possessions, I wish for you the hope of the future to rebuild and renew your lives, knowing that the community is supporting you, and doing all that it can to assist.

To those who continue to work to bring the fires to heel, our heartfelt thanks and best wishes with your ongoing efforts.

The Nillumbik Council has a dedicated page with bushfire information which can be accessed at:  http://www.nillumbik.vic.gov.au/page/page.asp?page_Id=2013
